Welcome to First Grade! I am so excited to be working with your child this year. First Grade is a very important year with a lot of learning to be accomplished. We will be having a busy year and your child will be growing by leaps and bounds in reading and math and all subject areas.
We will be using Class Dojo in our classroom to chart our behavior. You will be able to check your child's behavior using the app. It's also a way for us to communicate. I will have invitation letters at Open House for you to use to sign up for an account.
It is very important for me to get to know your sons and daughters as individuals. I am looking forward to spending time in the school day to learn about them. This can take a longer period of time with some students. You can help me with this. If you would like, some time between now and mid-September, you can jot a short note that will provide a little background information on your child. You can include your child's strengths, areas of concern, interests, outside activities, etc. These notes are optional and will be used to help me get to know your child better and plan a learning program to best meet your child's needs. You can send these notes with your son or daughter or e-mail me at [email protected].
Keeping parents informed about what is going on in our classroom is very important to me. I will keep our information updated on our class website weekly. I also will send out weekly newsletters, book order information, special events and reminders. Please be sure to check your child's homework folder each night for these things.
I know the beginning of the school year is always a busy time. Please take a few moments to look through the website. There is a lot of useful information here that can help you prepare for the beginning of the year. There is a page with the supply list for first grade, as well as a page with useful information about our school and classroom. I hope you and your child are as excited as I am for the beginning of the school year!
Feel free to contact me at anytime. I look forward to meeting and working with you this upcoming school year!
Sincerely,
Joanne Rynearson
